Starting a new venture can be both scary and exciting. While many people dream of starting their own business, they are often held back by fear. Trust me, starting my latest business venture has been a scary experience, to say the least. Fear of failure, fear of the unknown, fear of being judged, fear of not being good enough, fear of putting themselves out there, fear of taking risks. These fears can be overwhelming and can stop you from taking action and pursuing your dreams. But the truth is, fear is a natural part of the process. In this blog post, I’ll show you how to overcome your fear of starting and thriving in business, no matter the task.
Face your fear head-on
The best way to overcome your fear of starting is to face it head-on. Acknowledge your fear and the reasons behind it. Think about the worst-case scenario and how you would deal with it if it happened. Instead of avoiding your fear, accept it, and find ways to cope. It may be terrifying at first but the day you can look at your fear dead in the eye and go in head first will make you feel on top of the world because at least you can say you tried.
Start small
Starting small can help make the process less challenging. I’m a big advocate for breaking down your goals into smaller manageable tasks so they don’t seem so intimidating. By taking small steps, you will build momentum and gain confidence, making it easier to tackle bigger challenges down the line. For example, if you’re afraid of posting on social media, start by creating and sharing 2-3 posts per work and then move up. If that goal seems too much, try one post per week and see how you feel.
Get support
When you’re starting something new, it could be a scary and lonely journey. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and support from friends, family, or a mentor. Having someone to bounce ideas off of or offer encouragement can make all the difference. Even though it may seem easier to try to get through things alone because you don’t want to burden someone or feel like they won’t understand you, this thought process is often wrong because millions of people are going through the same thing you do. Joining a community of like-minded individuals can also help you feel supported and motivated.
Embrace failure
Fear of failure is among the most common fears that hold entrepreneurs back. But the truth is failure is part of the journey. The earlier you embrace it, the better. I always say you must learn how to fall in love with failure so that when you encounter it, you can process it and move on. Many people allow failure to hold them back or even throw the entire idea out the window. Mistakes are inevitable, but they are not the end of the world. Instead, learn from your failures and use them as stepping stones to move forward.
Celebrate your wins
Celebrating your wins is essential, no matter how small they may seem. Take time to acknowledge your progress and how far you’ve come. Let’s say you want to start a youtube channel. You broke down your action plan to achieve your goal. So you decide on a specific day to sign up and design your youtube channel header. Celebrate that win because most people don’t even get to that step, they just let the thought of starting to sit there, and eventually, the goal fades away. Celebrating your wins can help you stay motivated and build the confidence to keep going.
Overcoming your fear of starting takes time and practice. It’s not something that happens overnight. But by facing your fear head-on, starting small, getting support, embracing failure, and celebrating your wins, you can overcome your fear of starting and thriving in business. Fear is a natural part of the process, and feeling scared is okay. The important thing is to take action and push through your fear. Remember to get out there and start!
